Built on what used to be a car park, the designer-led Soho Hotel, part of the Firmdale Group, is all you could want in luxury and chic.
Hidden between Wardour and Dean Street in the heart of Soho, the hotel is slick and understated with the service all that you would expect from a 5* plus hotel. Larger than it appears, there are 91 incredibly stylish bedrooms. I was given a penthouse suite on the fifth floor, which to all intensive purposes was a flat with a large lounge, kitchen and balcony that had views of Soho’s skyline. “Larger than my flat” commented a girlfriend. What really grabbed my attention were the two amazing statues of dogs in the lounge although the cat in the hotel’s entrance hall is also very impressive. In fact, it is a heaven for art with statues and paintings where-ever you turn.
The restaurant, Refuel is laid back with its own entrance on Wardour Street. It is cleverly designed in such a way to make customers think it is a stand-alone eaterie rather than part of the hotel. Frequented by local trendies both for business and pleasure.
In the basement their meeting rooms include two theatres with screening possibilities. Sunday is movie night when one of the latest films on release is screened. A bonus is that not only is the hotel wi-fi but they will also lend you a laptop at no extra charge. The hotel also has a small gym and spa offering beauty and body treatments.
This is a place either for the very rich or those lucky enough to have a huge business expense account. My Terrace Suite which could easily have housed an entire family came in at over £4,000 for one night although that did include breakfast! A bonus, well-behaved dogs are welcome.
